In April 2012, the company Riko was selected on the basis of the first public procurement as general contractor for the first phase of building the kindergarten in Ribnica. Due to the state of deterioration and lack of space in the existing kindergarten, the Municipality of Ribnica (in cooperation with the Slovenian Chamber of Architecture and Spatial Planning) published a public tender in 2009/2010 to obtain the most suitable architectural and urban solutions for the new kindergarten in Ribnica. The solution that convinced the committee was the one provided by the architects Bojan Mrežar, Renato Rajnar and Peter Rijavec from the architectural firm named Arhi-tura. The solution is designed in such a way that it allows the entire kindergarten to be constructed in two phases. The first phase consists of the construction of an administrative-commercial building with 10 departments and their affiliated areas while the second phase consists of the construction of 10 departments A part of the existing kindergarten will remain in use until the completion of the second phase. This means that, in the end, there will be a total of 20 departments.
The deadline for the first phase of the construction of the kindergarten, which will be 1900m2 in size and will accommodate 180 children, is September 2013, whereas the second phase is expected to be completed sometime in 2013-2014. The Municipality of Ribnica stressed that: “The investment is necessary primarily because of the existing building’s lack of space, failure to meet spatial norms and complete state of deterioration; however, the aim of this project is also to provide the children with better conditions for spending time in kindergarten and to ensure better conditions for child development.”
